McKenna Alvarado (b. 2004 Round Rock, Texas) is a painter based in Savannah, Georgia. They are a BFA Painting candidate at the Savannah College of Art and Design, graduating in 2026. Within their work, McKenna’s painterly language utilizes abstract and mark-making techniques to pair with their profound views of the male gaze in art. Contradicting their vivid and playful color palette, they reflect on the emotions female figures are faced in nude artwork. Growing up queer and identifying as Non-Binary has influenced their relationship with gender expression. The whimsyness brought into McKenna’s paintings invites their audience to understand their relationship with the nude and how society continues to place their eyes on these bodies.
